Shinel Studios — Creator Toolkit

Last updated 24 October 2026 (version 1.1). Plain English: what the extension keeps, what it sends, and how to remove it.

In short

  • We never sell your data, never use it for ads, and never share it with anyone else.
  • The extension only talks to Shinel Studios' own server (auth.shinelstudios.in) and, to find a video's channel, YouTube's public oEmbed page.
  • It does not read your Google account, cookies, passwords, browsing history or other websites, and it never changes YouTube's player, ads or links.
  • The estimates it shows on YouTube pages are worked out on your computer. Nothing about the videos you watch is sent to us.
  • The free tools work without an account.

What it reads

The address of the YouTube tab you're on, when you open the extension — so it knows which channel or video to check. On a video page it asks YouTube's public oEmbed page which channel the video belongs to.

The numbers shown on the YouTube page you have open (views, how long ago a video came out, subscribers, and the page's own keywords for Copy tags), to show "Shinel estimate" badges and a small card. This happens in your browser; the numbers are not sent or stored. It does not run inside YouTube videos embedded on other websites, and you can turn the badges and card off for each kind of page in Settings.

Shorts safe zone and Studio feed preview (everyone): the safe-zone overlay reads only the size and position of the video on the page. The feed preview shows the thumbnail image already on the Studio page, or an image file you pick, at a few sizes on your screen. Neither sends anything anywhere.

On YouTube Studio, for Shinel team members only: the channel ID in the address, and the visible numbers on the page only when you click "Save stats" (or turn on daily auto-save, which is off by default).

Text you select, only when a Shinel team member right-clicks and chooses "Add to Shinel to-dos".

Your thumbnail image in the thumbnail tester stays in your browser. It is never uploaded or stored.

The tester's other cards are public videos from channels Shinel Studios edits. Their thumbnails and channel pictures load straight from YouTube's image servers, like on any page that shows a YouTube thumbnail.

What it sends, and why

  • Channel check: the channel handle or ID you're viewing, to our public channel-audit service (the same one as /tools/channel-audit). Results are cached for a day so YouTube isn't asked again.
  • If you sign in (Shinel clients and team only): your sign-in token, to show what needs you, your work list and your own notifications, and to carry out the actions you click (change a status, start a timer, add a to-do or prospect).
  • Studio stats (team only, on click): the numbers the extension found on the page, after you confirm them.
  • Sponsorship estimate: two rounded numbers (typical views of long videos and of Shorts on the channel page you're viewing) — no channel name or ID — to get price ranges back.
  • When you click, if you're signed in: "Save as reference" sends that video's link and your note to your moodboard or a job; "Note at" sends your note and the time in the video to that job; "Add to competitor watchlist" sends that channel's public ID.

The extension never shows or sends your money amounts (pay, invoices, balances). The only rupee figures it shows are the public sponsorship estimate you ask for. In YouTube Studio, team members can switch on a blur that hides revenue numbers on their own screen; nothing is sent.

What it stores on your computer

  • Your sign-in token (if you connected an account) and your name and role, in Chrome's extension storage.
  • A short-lived access token, in memory only.
  • Your settings (notifications, quiet hours, Studio panel, YouTube page badges and card, the safe-zone and feed-preview switches, revenue blur), recent channel checks (up to 6 hours), the last title you typed, upload-checklist ticks, and a short cache of your home screen.

What we store on our server

For a connected browser: a scrambled (hashed) copy of the token, the label you gave it, and when it was created and last used. Studio stats saved by team members are kept for the client's records. References, notes and watchlist channels you add are saved in your Shinel account, like when you add them on the website. For a competitor watchlist we keep each channel's public YouTube feed of the last 30 days; feeds that aren't refreshed for 30 days are deleted.

Sign-in

You never type a password into the extension. It shows a one-time code; you log in on shinelstudios.in as usual and click Allow. You can see and remove connected browsers any time on /extension/connect.

Notifications

Desktop notifications are off until you turn them on (Chrome then asks for permission). They show only your own Shinel updates, at most every 15 minutes, and not during your quiet hours.

How to delete your data

  • Sign out in the extension's settings — the token is removed from your computer and revoked on our server.
  • Remove a browser on /extension/connect.
  • Uninstall the extension — Chrome deletes everything it stored.
  • Anything else: email [email protected] and we'll delete it.
