How to make an invoice
- Add your details and logo. Type your name or business, address and tax ID in From, and upload a PNG or JPG logo if you have one.
- Add the client. Type the client's name, company and address in Bill to, and their GST or VAT number if they gave you one.
- Add line items. Add one line per deliverable with a quantity and rate. Totals update as you type.
- Set discount and tax. Add a percent or flat discount, then choose no tax, GST (CGST and SGST in the same state, IGST across states), VAT, or a custom tax and rate.
- Set number and due date. Check the invoice number and pick a due date, then add payment details such as bank or UPI and any notes.
- Download the PDF. Press Download PDF. Save the draft to reuse your details next time; the next invoice number is suggested for you.
CGST, SGST or IGST?
For a GST-registered freelancer in India, the split depends on the place of supply. Billing a client in your own state: charge CGST and SGST, each at half the rate (9% + 9% for 18%). Billing a client in another state: charge IGST at the full rate. Billing a client outside India is usually treated as an export of services, which has its own rules, so ask your accountant before adding tax. Know what to bill first with the rate calculator, and agree it in writing with the contract generator.
Frequently asked questions
Is this invoice generator really free?
Yes. No sign-up, no watermark beyond a small optional credit line you can switch off, and no limit on invoices. The PDF is made in your browser and nothing is uploaded to us.
How do I add GST to an invoice in India?
Choose GST and the rate (18% is the usual rate for video editing and design services, but confirm yours with your accountant). If you and your client are in the same state, the tax is split into CGST and SGST at half the rate each; if you are in different states, it is charged as IGST at the full rate. Add your GSTIN in Your tax ID, and the client's in Client tax ID.
Do I need to charge GST as a freelance video editor?
In India, GST registration is generally required once your turnover from services crosses the threshold set by the GST rules, and in some other cases such as certain interstate or export supplies. Thresholds and rules change, so check the current position with a chartered accountant. If you are not registered, choose No tax and do not show a GST line.
Can I make an invoice with VAT or sales tax?
Yes. Choose VAT and type the rate for your country, or Custom tax to name it yourself (for example Sales tax, HST or PST) and set the rate. The tool calculates it on the subtotal after any discount.
Can I make the invoice in Hindi, Punjabi or another Indian language?
Yes. Pick a language in Type in and write the way you text, for example dhanyavaad or sat sri akal; the field suggests the word in Devanagari, Gurmukhi, Tamil, Bengali or another script. The PDF draws every script correctly, conjuncts and matras included, with the real ₹ sign and Indian digit grouping like ₹1,00,000. Text pasted from Kruti Dev or Anmol Lipi fonts can be converted to Unicode in one click.
Can I change how the invoice looks?
Choose one of six themes (Modern, Classic serif, Minimal, Bold, Elegant, Creator), any accent colour, a calligraphy title, logo position, header and footer text, page numbers, a DRAFT or PAID watermark, A4 or US Letter and the margins. Add a signature by typing it in a calligraphy font, drawing it with your finger or mouse, or uploading an image. The preview is the PDF itself.
Where are my invoices saved?
Only in this browser's local storage, if you press Save draft. Clearing your browser data removes them, so keep the PDFs you send. Your logo is stored the same way and is never uploaded.
What should a freelance invoice include?
Your name and contact details, the client's details, a unique invoice number, the invoice date and due date, a description of each deliverable with quantity and rate, any discount and tax, the total due, and how to pay. Tax IDs are needed where you are registered for GST or VAT.
