Upside down text, flipped and mirrored.

Upside-down text reverses the order of your letters and swaps each one for a character that looks like it rotated: ɐ for a, ǝ for e, ʇ for t. Mirror text does the same with left-right lookalikes. It is a fun hook for captions, comments and bios.

Back to plain text

Paste fancy text (cursive, bold, glitch, upside down, bubbles) to get normal letters back, for example to make it searchable or readable.

How flipping works

Unicode has no 'rotate' option, so the generator borrows lookalikes from other alphabets and the International Phonetic Alphabet (ɐ, ɥ, ɯ), plus a few letters from the Lisu script (ꓭ, ꓷ, ꓘ). The order is reversed so it reads correctly when you turn the phone around.

Where it shows boxes

Older Android phones may not have the Lisu letters used for upside-down B, D, K and T, so capitals are the most likely to show as boxes. Lower case flips are the safest.

Use it for fun, not information

Search and screen readers cannot make sense of flipped text. Keep it for jokes and hooks, never for your name, a date or a link.

How to make upside down text

  1. 1Type your text. Type it above. Lower case flips most reliably.

  3. 3Copy. Tap to copy.
  4. 4Paste. Paste it into a caption, comment or message.

Frequently asked questions

How do I type upside down?

Type normally here and copy the Upside down style. It reverses the order and swaps each letter for a flipped lookalike.

Why do some upside-down capitals show as boxes?

Some flipped capitals use rarer characters from the Lisu script that older phones do not have. Use lower case for the best results.

What is the difference between upside down and mirror text?

Upside down rotates letters 180 degrees; mirror flips them left to right. Both reverse the order.

Can I flip text back?

Yes. Paste it into the Back to plain text box on this page and it turns the letters the right way round again.

Does upside-down text work on Instagram and TikTok?

Yes in captions, comments and bios. Search cannot read it, so do not use it for key words.
