Instagram fonts for your bio, copy and paste.

Instagram has no font menu, so every fancy bio you have seen is made of Unicode characters that look like styled letters. Type your text, pick a style, copy it, and paste it into Edit profile. The counter below checks it against the 150-character bio limit the strict way, so it fits when you paste.

What works on Instagram

  • Bold, italic, cursive script, small caps, outline and typewriter letters show correctly on current iPhone and Android apps and on instagram.com.
  • Frames built from symbols such as ✦, ꧁ ꧂, 【 】 and ♡ render everywhere Instagram does.
  • Line breaks: write the bio in the tool, copy it, and paste. Line breaks you type in the app are kept on both phones.

Known problems

  • Heavy glitch text spills over the line above and below in the bio and gets clipped in the profile header. Keep the intensity at 1 to 3 if you use it at all.
  • Black squares and letter tiles can show as coloured emoji on iPhones (A, B, O and P especially), which looks different from what you picked.
  • Instagram search matches the Name field. Fancy letters in your name make you harder to find, so keep your real name or main keyword in plain letters there.

Tips for Instagram

  • Use fancy letters for one or two words, not the whole bio. A bio that is all maths letters is read out letter by letter by screen readers and is hard to skim.
  • Your keyword belongs in plain text. Instagram search reads plain letters; a fancy keyword is invisible to it.
  • Hashtags must be plain letters to work. A #hashtag written in fancy letters is just text, not a link.

How to use fancy fonts on Instagram

  1. 1Type your text. Type your name, a bio line or a caption in the box at the top of this page.
  2. 2Pick a style. Scroll the styles, or start with Trending. Tap a card to copy it.
  3. 3Check the counter. Choose Bio, Name or Caption under the counter. It counts fancy letters the strict way, so the text fits when you paste.
  4. 4Paste in Instagram. In the Instagram app go to your profile, tap Edit profile, tap Bio or Name, paste, and tap Done.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change the font in my Instagram bio?

Instagram has no font setting. Type your bio here, copy one of the styles and paste it into Edit profile, then Bio. The fancy look comes from Unicode characters that look like styled letters, so it shows the same for everyone who views your profile.

Why do some letters show as boxes on Instagram?

The viewer's phone has no font that contains that character. Older Android phones are the usual cause. Bold, italic, cursive and small caps are safe on current phones; upside-down text and rare symbols are the most likely to show boxes.

Can I use fancy fonts in my Instagram username?

No. Usernames accept only letters, numbers, periods and underscores. You can use fancy text in your Name, Bio, captions, comments and story text.

Do fancy fonts hurt my Instagram reach?

Not directly, but search and hashtags only read plain letters. Fancy text in your Name makes you harder to find, and a hashtag in fancy letters does not work as a hashtag. Keep keywords and hashtags plain.

How many characters can an Instagram bio have?

150. Many fancy letters are stored as two characters, so a 150-character bio holds fewer fancy letters than plain ones. The counter on this page counts the strict way.
