X fonts, counted the way X counts.

X counts characters differently from most apps: plain Latin letters count 1, but most fancy letters, symbols and CJK characters count 2. A 50-character name holds only about 25 fancy letters. The counter on this page uses X's own weighting.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my fancy X name say it is too long?

X counts most fancy letters as two characters. A 50-character name fits about 25 fancy letters. Small caps and some symbols count as one. The counter on this page counts the way X does.

Can I use bold text on X?

Most accounts have no bold button. People use bold Unicode letters instead: type here, copy Bold sans, and paste. It looks bold, but X search and screen readers do not treat it as normal words.

Can I put fancy letters in my X username?

No. The @username takes letters, numbers and underscores, up to 15. Fancy text works in your display name, bio and posts.

Do fancy fonts hurt reach on X?

They make the styled words invisible to search and trends, and some readers mute or skip them. Use them for a heading or one word, not the whole post.

How long can an X bio be?

160 characters, counted with X's weighting, so a fully fancy bio fits about 80 fancy letters.
